Muñoz Sessarego notest that the Blender conversion of the face rig is “not very well weighted but it’s usable”. The rig also includes facial controls for the eyelids, lips and teeth. It features full IK/FK blending on the arms and legs, and hybrid IK/FK systems for the torso and head, “snappable” IK knees and elbows, and “bendy controls” for adding arcs to the limbs. The rig itself was originally created for Maya by Vladimir Mokhov – himself currently working for Blender-based feature animation studio Tangent Animation. The video is part of a series of Blender animation tutorials that Muñoz Sessarego, currently working at DNEG’s feature animation division, has posted on his YouTube channel. The Blender version of Rocket Girl was created for a timelapse video showing Muñoz Sessarego’s Blender character animation workflow.

The asset is a Blender conversion of a free Maya character rig created by fellow animator Vladimir ‘ VMComix‘ Mokhov.Ī free cartoon-style rig with body and facial controls, for Maya and Blender Movie animator Luciano Muñoz Sessarego has released Rocket Girl, a free Blender character rig of a retro-style superhero, to accompany a one-hour timelapse video showing his animation workflow.
